UNITE HERE Endorses Richard Moore
Yesterday, Richard Moore received the endorsement of UNITE HERE, a member of the North
Carolina AFL-CIO that represents more than 850,000 active and retired members throughout North
America, including 5,000 in North Carolina. UNITE HERE
is actively organizing workers in the service sector to raise living standards.
As the Associated Press reported,
UNITE HERE - the merger of the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees and Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union, has 5,000 members in North Carolina at 39 work sites.
Harris Raynor, an international vice president for the union, said the union backed Moore because of his past support for raising the minimum wage and because of his proposed economic stimulus plan.
Moore "has a bold plan to keep North Carolina's economy growing and is a candidate for governor that will continue to stand up for working North Carolinians," Raynor said.
The union wants Moore to speak to workers, while its members will knock on doors for his candidacy, Raynor said. The union is a member of the AFL-CIO, whose state chapter declined to endorse either Moore or chief party rival Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue. That allowed AFL-CIO member organizations to make their own endorsements.
