NEW POLL: Moore cuts Perdue lead to single digits
Remember when Bev Perdue was bragging about her 27-point advantage in the independent Public Policy Polling (PPP) poll? Well, that’s all changed. A new poll released yesterday from PPP shows Richard Moore has made dramatic gains, cutting Perdue's lead down to single digits—4 1%-34%—thanks to our aggressive, focused campaign.
Running scared, the Perdue campaign has adopted a three-pronged strategy to stem the tide of Richard's growing momentum.
1. If you can’t beat him, join him. After Richard announced his plan to raise the minimum wage, Bev said that she planned to raise the minimum wage. After Richard said he wanted to cut seniors' property taxes, Bev said she wanted to cut seniors' property taxes. After Richard announced his plan to eliminate the child care waiting list, Bev declared she wanted to eliminate the child care waiting list. And after Richard announced his plan to make community college tuition-free for high school graduates, Bev now claims that she'll provide free community college too. Richard’s message of economic opportunity is not only resonating with voters; it’s also resonating with Bev Perdue.
2. Launch misleading and inaccurate attack ads on television. Newspapers have called her TV ads misleading and inaccurate. Her latest smear accuses Richard of being too cozy with Wall Street, even though she was caught raising campaign funds on Wall Street just last month! As Greensboro News-Record reporter Mark Binker said, "it is worth noting that a candidate who has used 'Wall Street' as a slur against her opponent is herself raising money from the financial industry."
3. Duck debates, so you don’t have to answer tough questions about points 1 and 2. This past week, Bev turned down yet another televised debate on WTVI in Charlotte. The Charlotte Observer reported that, "The campaign cited scheduling conflicts, though the organizers were flexible on the date." Perdue has ducked literally every debate that would require genuine give-and-take between the candidates.
Rest assured, we will not let Bev Perdue’s false attacks go unanswered. The truth is catching up with her. And so are Richard's poll numbers.
