Moore Racks up Endorsements

Richard Moore has received twelve different newspaper endorsements in the Democratic primary race for governor, including the Greensboro News-Record, Wilmington Star-News, Wilmington Journal, Carolinian, Independent Weekly, Southern Pines Pilot, Winston-Salem Journal, Wilson Times, Spring Hope Enterprise, Minority Voice, Reidsville Review, and the Oxford Ledger.   He also received endorsements from Equality NC, the Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics of North Carolina, and the labor union UNITE HERE.
Moore oversees $90 billion in state investments and has been an excellent steward of the state pension fund. He has maintained the state's stellar triple-A credit rating. He also has won national acclaim for his crusade against Wall Street investment firm abuses. Moore, 47, also lobbied forcefully and successfully for an increase in the state's minimum wage. He supports a further increase to the minimum wage, pre-paid college tuition plans that would lock in tuition rates, and tax cuts for small businesses. . . . [H]is blend of moxie and inventiveness make Moore the better leader.

[ Greensboro News-Record, 5-4-08]
Richard Moore has stronger overall credentials and the superior plan, and he sells it better.

[ Wilmington Star-News, 5-3-08]
Richard Moore has displayed a solid commitment to the issues that are important to North Carolina from the very beginning, and during his tenures in the state Legislature, the NC Dept. of Crime Control and Public Safety, and as state Treasurer, he has tackled raising North Carolina’s minimum wage, bringing more good paying jobs to North Carolina, and advocating for more opportunity for blacks in state government….Richard Moore has proven to be a consistent advocate for improving the quality of life for all North Carolinians. That’s why we wholeheartedly endorse him to be elected our next North Carolina governor.

[ The Wilmington Journal, 4-24-08]
Richard Moore is the only candidate in the Democratic primary running for governor who has actually managed a state agency.  He’s managed two of them…These points, along with our confidence in Mr. Moore’s abilities and dedication to serving the people of North Carolina, prompts us to endorse Richard Moore for Governor of North Carolina.

[ The Carolinian, 4-24-08]
In our opinion, Moore would make the better governor…He has been a good treasurer, helping preserve and grow the state’s investments. He also proved able as a public-safety secretary during the Hunt administration, especially after Hurricane Floyd.

[ Winston-Salem Journal, 4-16-08]
Moore has done good work in his two terms as treasurer, modernizing investment policies for the state's $78 billion pension portfolio to achieve a better balance of stocks and bonds…The returns on those investments under Moore's leadership have been competitive with the broad markets, as they should be, and contrary to the Perdue campaign's dark assertions that they haven't….Moore was among the first public pension fund managers to join the investor-protection movement, questioning the huge salaries paid to corporate executives and demanding cuts in the bloated fees some mutual fund companies charge.

[The Independent Weekly
, 4-23-08]
Moore has excelled in two diametrically different jobs. As secretary of crime control and public safety in the Hunt administration, he ably supervised the recovery from two hurricanes. More recently as state treasurer, he kept the state's retirement reserves fully funded -- and then some -- at a time when those in many other states were on the skids. He seems eminently qualified to provide the kind of hands-on management that has too often been missing under the administration of Gov. Mike Easley.

[ The Southern Pines Pilot, 4-23-08]
The choice in the Democratic primary is between an insider candidate who believes it's her turn to be governor and a candidate who has the experience, skills and straightforward openness to serve the state well.

[ Wilson Times, 4-12-08]
North Carolina urgently needs accountability more than new programs — making Richard Moore the best choice for Democratic nominee for governor as an agent for urgently needed change.

[ Spring Hope Enterprise, 4-30-08]
We watched and liked his performance as secretary of public safety and crime control, and we have watched and liked his performance as state treasurer.  Not just satisfied to do a good job investing public funds, he took a national lead in representing the interests of his public when it comes to the investment world.

[ Oxford Ledger, 5-28-07]
Treasurer Moore has demonstrated leadership in standing up for fairness in state government and is committed to fighting discrimination as Governor. . . . We are proud to support his campaign.

[Ian Palmquist, Executive Director of Equality NC, 4-10-08]
Richard Moore has a track record and experience unmatched by any other candidate in this race. . . . Both as Secretary of Crime Control and Public Safety and then as State Treasurer Richard has done an outstanding job for public employees such as firefighters and paramedics.

[David Anders, President of the Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics of North Carolina, 3-26-08]
Richard stood before the most powerful business interests in the state and challenged them to support him in raising the minimum wage.  He has a bold plan to keep North Carolina’s economy growing and is a candidate for governor that will continue to stand up for working North Carolinians.

[Harris Raynor, International Vice President/Director of UNITE HERE, 3-13-08]

I support Richard because I saw how he handled Hurricane Floyd in 1999 and I hope he brings forth the same management style as governor.
