Rewarding Hard Work

February 21, 2008

Hard Work
As a federal prosecutor, state representative, secretary of crime control and public safety, and state treasurer, Richard Moore has fought for fair treatment of North Carolina workers and families.  As the News & Observer recently wrote, “Richard Moore has been a strong advocate for consumers since being elected state treasurer almost eight years ago.”

He led the fight to raise North Carolina’s minimum wage in 2006.  He has been a national leader in the effort to end the corporate abuses that hurt consumers and our pension fund.  And he has worked diligently to promote reforms that (more)

Better Financial Management and Reform

February 21, 2008

Financial Management
As state treasurer, Richard holds one of the most accountable offices in state government.  Well over 800,000 North Carolinians depend on Richard to manage their retirement savings.  He has safeguarded their money responsibly – building the 2nd strongest state pension system in the nation.

Richard will bring this same approach to all of state government from the governor’s office.  Working families across our state understand the need to plan wisely when managing their family finances, and we need a governor who will bring the same common-sense approach to managing the state’s (more)

Affordable Health Care

February 21, 2008

Health Care
“I have three children under the age of 11. No one in my family is currently insured. My youngest child needs vision surgery ($6000.) and we cannot afford it. She also requires maintenance medications for asthma that cost $300 monthly without insurance. I also require maintenance medications and often go without my meds or take less than the prescribed dosage in order to be able to afford her medications. We are a middle class family and among the ‘working poor.’  I worry what will happen if one of my children gets sick or seriously injured. The potential medical bills could destroy us financially.”

Defending the Environment

February 21, 2008

Growing up in rural North Carolina, Richard Moore gained a strong appreciation for our state’s natural beauty as he hunted, fished, and camped in some of our state’s most beautiful open spaces.  As a federal prosecutor with the US Attorney’s office in North Carolina, Richard protected sea turtle eggs along the Carolina coast, helped enforce the Endangered Species Act, and delivered a landmark felony conviction in a waste management case that helped set a precedent for the office to start criminally prosecuting environmental cases.  As governor, he will work to ensure that our state’s air, water and open spaces are enhanced (more)
